"It's been said that Conejos County is an outdoor Art Gallery displaying larger than life murals set against the beauty that only Mother Nature can create.
The "Mural of Conejos County Driving [Walking] Tour" is a fascinating trip through some of the most beautiful pastoral landscapes in the Rocky Mountains. along the way, the murals engage in the ages old local tradition of story-telling depicting tales of settlement, folklore, faith, scenic beauty and everyday rural life. From prehistoric lore of the Feathered Serpent of the Rio Grande to Bronco Busting at the 100+ year old Manassa rodeo, and a herd of thundering hooves crossing the high desert valley...we have stories to tell. Like the rock art of prehistoric Native Americans scattered across the San Luis Valley, the mural communicate details of our lives, our past and our future. As a long held artistic traditiion in Conejos County you'll find treasured murals splashed across walls in businesses, churches, school and even tucked inside private homes. |
