The San Luis Valley spans an area of 8,000 square miles (slightly larger then the state of Massachusetts)! Our member museums each have intimate knowledge of the people and events comprising their history. Please feel free to use the map on our home page to locate the museum nearest the town you are interested in, then contact them for more information.

Maria Clara Martinez has a database comprising over 70,000 individuals from Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. This comprehensive resource includes the founding families of La Culebra, La Veta, Walsenburg, Conejos, San Miguel de La Costilla, and other San Luis Valley towns. Maria has done special research on descendants of William (Guillermo) Le Blanc, Tom Tobin, Charles Bent (who was killed at the Taos massacre), Kit Carson, the Vigil family, Tom Boggs, and Antoine Leroux. Feel free to email Maria for more information or write her at Box 387, San Pablo, CO 81153-0387

Feel free to contact any of the museums to inquiry about their photograph collections. For instance, the Monte Vista Historical Society, has over 4,000+ cataloged photographs and articles. They will be happy to try to help you, and can provide custom reprints of their images (there may be a fee for the reproduction of photos).
