Ivory Carving from the Weldon Collection

Hippopotamus Tusk Carving from the Weldon Collection

This is another example of the fine works of art included in the collection of Dr. Lynn Weldon.

When the international embargo on the Ivory Trade was instituted in the 1980s, craftsmen sought alternative materials for their artwork.  Because hippos naturally shed, then regrow, their tusks, this material has enjoyed growing acceptance as a medium.

These tusks are hand-carved in China and portray Warrior Figures on Horses.

The collection is unique and includes many rare art forms representing the talents of numerous modern and ancient artisans and craftsmen in media and materials that have resulted in representational pieces depicting their skills at the higest levels of achievement.

There are no comparable collections available to the public anywhere in the area.  Its educational possibilities are unparalleled.
